FIREPROOF Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. –Proverbs 3:13-15

The movie, “Fireproof” starring Kirk Cameron was released this past weekend. I don’t often recommend movies, but this one really has “social redeeming value” a characteristic we don’t often see coming out of Hollywood (or as some might call it, “Hell- y-wood”). If you haven’t seen it yet, do so. It’s that good. I see 3 lessons the movie teaches (among many others) that are worth noting. First, marriage naturally degenerates over time. You don’t have to be a particularly “bad” or “evil” person for your marriage to fail. It will happen all by itself. Lesson 2: “Never leave your partner.” That’s more about attitude and commitment. The psychological “back door” is locked tight. In fact, there is none. And third, we need to be committed to doing whatever it will take to love unconditionally –a love we can only have when we first receive it from God. You can’t give what you don’t have. Those are three really good lessons for marriage, three lessons that would put us out of business if more people got a hold of them –Hallelujah! Let’s take them to heart and commit ourselves to making our marriages – FIREPROOF!

PRAYER FOR THE BOTH OF US: Lord, help us to gain wisdom concerning our marriage to “fireproof” our marriage and to keep it from getting burned by our own selfish desires
