Maternity Leave Breast Pumps: Coverage Information & How to Order
Breast Pumps Women’s Health Care Reform, as of 08/01/2012, covers both manual and mechanical breast pumps. The Women’s Health Care Reform stipulates that women can obtain one pumping device per pregnancy; however, Anthem will administer and cover one pumping device per year. If the member has two (2) pregnancies in one year, the additional purchase of a breast pump will be covered.
Employees do not need a prescription to purchase the breast pump. There are also no regulations that state employees must first get the mechanical pump or lesser model, before purchasing or renting the expensive model. A pre-certification is not required for getting a breast pump. If the member purchases the pump & supplies from an In-Network Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider, the pump is covered in full, one per year (pregnancy). o Typically, the pump will come with the standard supplies when purchased.
