On May 4th, Lauber Imports, a division of Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, returned to the NY Marriott Marquis for its Grand Annual Tasting. Over 2,000 licensees and members of the press from around the region attended the large portfolio tasting. The event offered over 1,000 wines which were presented by winemakers and representatives from over 250 wineries.

Don Q Pairs Rum with Jazz Don Q Rums partnered with Rums of Puerto Rico on April 15th to host a special cocktail reception at “Jazz at Lincoln Center” to preview Icons Among Us: Jazz In The Present Tense, a four-part documentary film series that examines the world of contemporary jazz. Wines of Argentina Educates Trade and Consumers at the New york Wine EXPO Wines of Argentina was on hand at this year’s New York Wine Expo pouring wines and educating press, trade and consumers about the country’s expanding wine regions. The three-day event, held February 27th – March 1st at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, welcomed over 3,000 consumers, 3,000 trade representatives and 175 wineries from around the world. Bacardi and Empire Merchants Launch Dragon Berry On May 11th at Hotel Gansevoort’s Ono Bar, Bacardi USA and Empire Merchants launched Bacardi’s newest flavor, Dragon Berry. The event intro� duced guests to this new Asian-inspired infusion of strawberry and dragonfruit. Over 200 bartenders, on-premise and service industry professionals were transported to the Orient via a dragon dance and martial arts demonstrations.

Mixologists Compete in Style at Hendrick’s Annual Croquet Tournament Recognized mixologists from across the country gathered at New York’s Elevated Acre on May 12th to compete in Hendrick’s second annual croquet tournament. The competition, inspired by a classic English garden party, judged contestants on their croquet prowess and classic������������������������� ������������������������ attire. This year’s win� ners were Ivan Radulovic and Rizo Popovic repre� senting Macu Bar. ASA Holds 2009 Best Sommelier in America Competition

Twenty of the nation’s top sommeliers traveled to New York City to compete for the title of “Best Sommelier in America”. The event, held April 5th and 6th at Jumeirah Essex House by the American Sommelier Association, put candidates through a rigorous series of theoretical and practical exams. Michael Englemann from San Francisco’s Gary Danko Restaurant was selected as this year’s winner, and will be given the opportunity to represent the United States at the Best Sommelier in the World Competition to be held in Spain in 2010.

Cinco de Mayo with Don Nacho Cinco de Mayo weekend was busy for Don Nacho Tequila, sharing authentic Mexican mariachi music with bars and restaurants all over New York and Long Island.

“Breaking New Ground” was the theme at Wines of Chile’s annual grand tasting held on June 3rd at Gotham Hall. The event gathered 48 of the country’s leading producers from 13 diverse wine regions who presented hundreds of wines to trade, media and hundreds of consumers. The event also included two unique winemaking seminars led by special guest Michael Green, wine and spirits consultant to Gourmet Magazine.

around ny New Yorkers Gather for a Scotch Whisky Extravaganza The Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America and the Robb Report hosted the 16th Annual Single Malt Scotch Whisky Extravaganza held May 7th at the Roosevelt Hotel. The evening welcomed single malt and Scotch whisky enthusiasts to taste from over 80 rare single malt Scotch whiskies as well as expressions from Ireland,  Japan and New Zealand.  The evening included a dinner buffet as well as a selection of premium cigars.

Grand Marnier and Navan Define Cocktail Trends at 2009 Mixology Summit Which trends most define the cocktail world of today? Grand Marnier asked 100 of the country’s top mixologists what they thought and shared the results with invited guests at the 2009 Grand Marnier and NAVAN Mixology Summit. The event, held at the Moët Hennessy Lounge on June 3rd, recruited beverage expert Steve Olson and top mixologists Andrew Seymour and Leo DeGroff to illuminate the results and mix up some of the country’s most cutting-edge cocktails.

New York Celebrates the French Cocktail Hour For the past six years, the French cocktail hour has been celebrated on the first Thursday of June in 19 countries worldwide. This year, on June 4th, French Cocktail Hour partnered with to organize 1,000 Do-it-Yourself parties hosted by Americans across the country. New Yorkers celebrating the occasion gathered at Bar Blanc Bistro to sip on French cocktails, wines and beers and savor a wide selection of fromage provided by Cheeses of France.
