presented the HIB (Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying) Violence and Vandalism report. He explained every year superintendents are required to report to the Board of Education on the incidents of violence and vandalism which have occurred in the district during the previous school year. said between July 2016 and December 2016, there were the following counts of incidences: violence, 12; vandalism, 1; weapons, 0; substance abuse, 10; and unduplicated total, 34. said the cost of vandalism to the district, $0. said the actions taken for violence and vandalism were: police notified (no complaint), 4; police notified (complaint filed), 3; in-school suspension, 2; out-of-school suspensions, 30; expulsions, unilateral removals, removals by Administrative Law Judge, 0. said the offenders and victims were as follows: student offenders 41; student victims, 15; school personnel victims, 4; and students victims of Violent Criminal Offense, 0. said the number of HIB incidents were 11; 10-day investigations completed, 11; and Board of Education decisions rendered, 11. said the mode of HIB incidents were: gesture, 1; written, 0; verbal, 8; physical, 1; and electronic communication, 2. said the disciplinary action taken for HIB incidents between July 2016 and December 2016 were: other/none, 7; expulsion, 0; in-school suspension, 0; out-of school suspension, 2; unilateral removal and removals by Administrative Law Judge, 0; detention, 7; and suspension of privileges, 1. said a comparison of the district’s reporting of violence and vandalism showed: 85 total incidents in 2016-2017; 93 incidents in 2015-2016; and 142 incidents in 2009-2010. said there were the following confirmed number of HIB incidents in 2016-2017, 23; 2015-2016, 37; and 2011-2012, 58.

commended Richard Rubenstein of CardSmart of Old Bridge, for his donation of fidgets on behalf of children with special needs in Old Bridge Township Public Schools. commended the following Old Bridge students for their achievements in the New Jersey Special Olympics Winter Games Speed Skating Competition. They are: Yimaj Abdisubhan, 300m, first place and 500m, third place; Louis Cavana, 100m, first place and 500m, first place; Robert Lieu, 300m, second place and 500m, second place; Salvatore Luppino, 300m, second place and 500m second place; Dylan Madrid, 300m, third place and 500m, first place; Paul Pantano, 300m, first place and 500m, first place; and Jaden Regenbogen, 300m, participation and 500m, third place. commended the following Old Bridge students for their achievements in the New Jersey Special Olympic Basketball program. They are: Louis Cavana, Robert Lieu, Dylan Madrid and Nicholas Rulli, all silver, Division 4 and silver, Division 10; Yimaj Abdisubhan, Matthew D’Iorio and Madison McQuade, all silver, Division 6 and gold, Division 12; and Alexander Cassara, Salvatore Luppino, Paul Pantano and Scott Solomon, all bronze, Division 6. commended the Jonas Salk Middle School Girls’ Track and Field Team for winning the 2017 GMC Championships at South Brunswick on May 23. commended Promise Fitzpatrick, a seventh grade student on the Jonas Salk Middle School Girls’ Track Team, for winning the 100 meter and 200 meter races at the 2017 GMC Championships on May 23. commended the following Old Bridge High School students for their placements at the FBLA 2017 NJ State competitions in March 2017. They are: Frank Serpe, 12th grade, first place Journalism and Gold Member Award; Kaitlyn Iyer, 11th grade, first place Accounting I and fourth place Partnershp with Business; Robin McManus, 12th grade, first place Word Processing; Grabrielle Tanson, 12th grade, fourth place Partnership with Business; Salvatore Giordano, 11th grade, fifth place Accounting I; and Chukwudumebi Nwankwo, 9th grade, fifth place Introduction to Business. recognized Steven Updergraff and the choral students for their accomplishments at the May 12 Choir Competition in Behtlehem, PA. The accomplishments are: Concert Choir, first place, Superior Rating, Mixed Choir Category; Women’s Recital, first place, Superior Rating, Women’s Choir Category and Overall Choral Award, highest score of all choirs; Emily Chau, senior, Outstanding Accompanist Award; and Kiri Skibniewski, junior, Outstanding Soloist Award. recognized Lisa Helyes and Yuriy Skikhanovich, Girls Who Code moderators, for dedicating countless hours to help establish and facilitate a Girls Who Code Chapter at Old Bridge High School. recognized Carlos Castronovo and Emily Arrisicato of Giusseppe’s Pizzeria in Old Bridge for its generosity for its pizza donation to our Mentoring Program at the YMCA. The continued support through the school benefited our students, peer leaders, and mentors. recognized the efforts of Denise Bucciero (branch director) and Ken Cardullo of the Old Bridge YMCA for their support with the Carl Sandburg Mentoring Program. The YMCA has graciously provided its facility and staff for our students to engage in positive and constructive after school activities throughout the year.

accepted a grant in the amount of $250 from the eCybermission Stem Outreach for the Carl Sandburg Middle School Academic Team.

approved the retirement of Damiano Nistico, maintenance Carpenter, with deep appreciation for his 21 years of dedicated service to the district, effective, Aug. 1.

approved the retirement of paraprofessional aide Emilia Hurst with deepest appreciation for her 25 years of dedicated service to the students of Old Bridge Township Public Schools, effective July 1.

approved the retirement of Thomas Pitzer, OBHS/Air Force Junior ROTC, with deep appreciation for his 14 years of dedicated service to the District, effective July 1.
SUPPLIES, SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT The Board •
approved a resolution appointing T.D. Equipment Finance Inc., a lessor relating to the lease purchase of various equipment not to exceed $2.6 million. The interest rate shall be 1.76 percent.
