CGI CSR Program Report October 2016
There are over 300 Million people in India who don't have access to electricity. CGI through their corporate CSR initiative wanted to bring about a change in their lives. 'Sparsh' - In India, all of CGI's CSR activities are organized by members through a group called Sparsh. Sparsh inspires their professionals in India to give back by organizing a wide range of charitable initiatives – from quarterly blood drives, to teaching IT in local schools, to raising funds to support various causes benefiting the underprivileged. CGI chose to work along with Rotary Bangalore Spandana as the NGO for this project. Rotary Bangalore Spandana was instrumental in identifying the beneficiaries for this project.
As a part of the CSR mandate, CGI chose to work along with Mesha Energy Solutions to adopt a village and wanted to make a difference to them.
A total of 20 beneficiaries were identified for whom the lighting kits were distributed.

These beneficiaries are mainly women and girl children. The women are either widows or single mothers who have the difficulties of being the breadearners for their respective families. Also a couple of girl children were identified who are mainly orphans and are dependent on their grandparents.
Rotary with the help of Belaku trust, identified the As a start, CGI gave funds to light up a small beneficiaries who reside in and around the Sathnur part of the village. town, Kanakapura taluk.
Distribution of Solar Lighting Kits With the beneficiaries identified, Rotary Spandana along with Mesha Energy Solutions distributed the lighting kits on the 23rd of July 2016. To ensure that the lighting kits are being used effectively, the rotary has engaged Belaku trust - a NGO who work with the underpriviliged in the surrounding area. Their women volunteers work with the beneficiaries directly in helping them various things such as financial management, schooling for their children etc. These lighting kits are being used by the beneficiaries for the last couple of months.

Beneficiaries' Speak I was using Kerosene for lighting initially. Now i can use this light, it is non-polluting Uma, Karadigudda
We get electricity for 2 to 3 hrs only and with this light now, i dont need to depend on it and i save 100 rupees a month on the electricity bill - Nagamma, Buvalli

I use this light for cooking and reading. This is better than other lighting we had before Neelamma, VR Doddi
