Faith Comes from God and Leads to Obedience Unbelief Leads to Disobedience January – 2014 – ekb Found in pastornotes.com Faith comes to us from the Lord, as the Holy Spirit reveals to us a Word from God our Father. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17. As it is required of us that we live by faith, it is essential for us to be hearing the voice of the Lord. Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38, Romans 14:23, Hebrew 11:6. The Lord may speak to us as we read the Scriptures, or by a vision, an audible voice, a word of prophecy, an inward spiritual revelation, or by some event that occurs or by a dream. One thing is certain; the Lord speaks to His people. Matthew 4:4, John 6:63, John 8:12, John 10:27, 28, Colossians 1:9, Jeremiah 10:23 and Proverbs 20:24, John 14:26, 1John 2:27, 2Samuel 5:19, 23 - 25, Acts 22:14, Psalm 32:8, Proverbs 3:6. One thing is necessary; are we taking time to listen to hear His voice? Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12, Hebrews 12:2, Luke 10:39-42, Matthew 13:16, John 7:17, Isaiah 55:2,3, 6-11, Colossians 3:1-3, 1Samuel 3:10. The Centurion said to Jesus, “Speak the Word only and my servant will be healed.” Matthew 8:8. Jesus spoke to Peter and said, “Come!” Matthew 14:29. With this faith, Peter stepped out of the boat and walked over the water towards Jesus. Faith is the process of: * Surrendering our will to the will of God, so that no matter what He says to us, we will believe it and choose to obey it. John 7:17. *Taking time to seek the Lord, by prayer and reading the Word, to hear His voice. Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12, Acts 16:6-10, Isaiah 51:1, Isaiah 55:2, 3, 5, Proverbs 4:20-22, Psalm 119:11, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:130,Psalm 119:162. *Of being still and listening for His voice. 2Samuel 5:19, Psalm 46:10, Luke 10:39-42. *Hearing the Word the Lord speaks to us. (The “rhema” word.) John 10:27,28. * Making a written note of what the Lord has said in our spiritual diary. Jeremiah 31:21, Isaiah 30:8, Habakkuk 2:2. * Choosing to believe in our heart, the Word which the Lord has spoken. Romans 10:8, 9,10. *Proclaiming aloud the Word which has been spoken. 2Corinthians 4:13, Hebrews 3:1, 4:15, 10:23. * Acting in obedience to the Word given, where action is required. Matthew 14:29, John 2:5, James 1:21. Where these steps are taken the Word of the Lord will be fulfilled. Luke 1:45, John 11:40, Luke 1:37, (Amp V), Matthew 8:8, Isaiah 55:11, Jeremiah 1:12, Matthew 24:35, Isaiah 40:8. Because faith comes from the Lord, as we follow the steps of faith, the will of God will be done, and we will have been obedient to the will of God.
Faith comes from the Lord and leads to obedience.
On the other hand, if we are in unbelief, which is believing something that is not true according to the Word of God, we will end up acting in a way that is contrary to the will of God. We will act in disobedience. Saul, later “Paul”, breathing out threats and murder, was on his way to Damascus, to arrest disciples of Jesus and imprison them. Acts 9:1,2. Saul probably believed that Jesus was a false Messiah and that His followers must be removed. Saul believed something that was untrue, and as a result acted in disobedience to the will of God. Outside the city of Damascus, Saul met the risen Jesus, and he changed in his thinking from unbelief, to faith in the truth about Jesus. Acts 9:3-22. This change resulted in a life of obedience to the will of God, for the “apostle Paul”. 2Timothy 4:6-8. Jesus said, “God’s Word is truth.” John 17:17. Jesus said, “I am the truth.” John 14:6. Jesus said, “If you continue in My Word you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31, 32. It is written, “The Spirit is truth.” 1John 5:6, 1John 2:27. In Numbers 13 and 14, where the 12 spies were sent out to survey the Promised Land, 10 of the spies came back with a report which contradicted what God had said in Deuteronomy 1:6-8. In Deuteronomy 1:6-8, God said, “Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord promised unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.”
The 10 spies said, “We are not able to go up and take the land. There are giants in the land and we are not able to fight against them!” Numbers 13:31-33. God had said to Israel, “Go in and possess the land.” This command of God guaranteed the help of God, so that they were well able to “Go up and possess the land.” What God commands he enables. The 10 spies believed an untruth. They had unbelief. This led to disobedience. However there were two spies, Caleb and Joshua, who believed the Word God had spoken, and said, “Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.” Numbers 13:30. “If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it to us: a land flowing with milk and honey. Only rebel not against the Lord, neither fear the people of the land: for they are bread for us.” Numbers 14:8,9. Unbelief is different from “doubt.” Unbelief is believing an untruth; something that is contrary to the truth of God’s Word. Doubt is knowing a truth of the Word of God but doubting that it will come to pass. We may know that the Word of God teaches that it is God’s will to heal the sick, but we may doubt that this will happen when we pray for someone to be healed. Psalm 103:3, Matthew 8:17. When we pray and ask God for wisdom for example, we must ask in faith, believing that we receive it. Mark 11:24. It is God’s will to give abundant wisdom to all who ask for it. James 1:5. Therefore it is right for us to believe, that we receive wisdom, when we ask our heavenly Father for it. This being so, we must refuse doubt, and believe that we receive the wisdom, as God has promised in James 1:5. Read the whole passage of James 1 from verse 5 to 8. Doubt stops us receiving the blessings of God, which he wills to give us. One day the Holy Spirit said to a member of our family, “Stop doubting!” Another example: it is God’s will for us to receive His blessing of sleep. Psalm 127:2. When I am having difficulty in sleeping, I ask God for His gift of sleep, and then declare that I receive it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus told us to believe that we receive, what we ask for, in Mark 11:24. I follow this with thanksgiving to God for His gift if sleep which I have received. If there is still difficulty in getting off to sleep, I bind the spirit of insomnia in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and command it to loose me in Jesus’ name. Matthew 16:19. I follow this by again declaring that I receive the Lord’s blessed gift of sleep in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Unbelief is believing the wrong thing, something that is not true, and it leads to disobedience. The Words Jesus speaks to us are Spirit and life. John 6:63. If we continue in the Words of Jesus we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free from sin, - and also from the untruth of the devil and this world. John 8:31,32. The Word of God is truth. John 17:17. Jesus is the truth. John 14:6. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (of truth ).S 2Timothy 1:7. The Holy Spirit is truth. 1John 5:6, 1John 2:27. “Seek and defend the truth.” Kaitaia College motto. “Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” Jude 3. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” 3John 4.
