A LETTER FROM PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU Dear Friends, It gives me great pleasure to send you warm greetings from Jerusalem on the occasion of the annual Gala Dinner of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, celebrating 30 years of activity on behalf of IDF soldiers. Your contribution to the lives of Israel’s brave young men and women in uniform provides them with well-deserved educational and leisure activities on and off their bases. In addition, by providing scholarship funds, your generosity helps them build their futures once released from the army. In doing so, you look after those who look after Israel. I thank you for your commitment, and wish you an enjoyable evening. Sincerely,

Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister

A LETTER FROM PRESIDENT SHIMON PERES Dear Friends, On the occasion of the forthcoming gala dinner, I want to warmly thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with our combatants in the pursuit of their mission. Given the winds of change in our region, now, more than ever, much hinges on the lDF in facing the challenges of tomorrow and keeping the dangers in abeyance. We take pride that alongside the immense courage and uncompromising tenacity of purpose of their performance, our soldiers keep in mind the moral and ethical Jewish values instilled in them. This is the hallmark of the IDF, the army of the people, its soldiers representing the core of our society and the shapers of its future. Your efforts on behalf of the collective well-being of the IDF are noteworthy, heightened by your concern for the soldier as an individual. Your unwavering support has served to generate ever-stronger bonds not only with the lDF but with the people of Israel as a whole, and we in Israel wish to voice our gratitude for your considerable contribution and for taking the IDF and its soldiers under your loving wing. Your partnership is meaningful and your show of solidarity is significant. Confident that we shall continue to work together for the benefit of this important cause, I wish you an enjoyable and successful event.

Shimon Peres President

A LETTER FROM MINISTER OF DEFENSE EHUD BARAK

Dear Friends, It is my pleasure to send greetings to each of you attending the Friends of the Israel Defence Forces (FIDF) 2011 Annual Gala Dinner. The soldiers of Israel carry out the utmost vital and sacred mission of all - protecting our Jewish homeland. They risk their lives day and night and are willing to sacrifice themselves for the protection of others. They do this not just because it is their duty, but also because they know that the survival of our people rests on their shoulders. Your dedication to the soldiers of the IDF makes a tremendous difference to their daily lives. The remarkable support you provide does more than improve their wellbeing- it also strengthens their spirit and morale. The IDF soldiers continue to face challenges year after year. Their evident behavior is extremely moral and ethical. Your incredible devotion means that they will never stand alone - for that they cherish each and every one of you for all that you do. This year, FIDF is celebrating its 30th anniversary, on this special occasion I would like to express my deep appreciation for your commitment to the soldiers of the IDF and to the security of the State of Israel and the Jewish Nation. Thank you. Sincerely,

Ehud Barak Minister Of Defense

ISRAEL DEFENSE FORCES CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF Dear Friends of the IDF, Central Region, I greet you on this exciting evening which concludes another year of important work by your organization for the welfare of the soldiers of the IDF. This activity is significant for both the IDF and the State of Israel in supporting the absolute qualitative edge of the IDF – its people. We are in a period of dramatic change in the Arab world around us, the results of which we will only know in the future. These changes are causing complex challenges, which come on top of the existing challenges. In light of these the IDF is developing new technologies, training its soldiers, strengthening and constantly improving. Now as always, the IDF will stand as a shield for the Jewish people in every place, at any time. As you all well know, there is a daily and ongoing campaign of de-legitimization against the State of Israel. This campaign, which operates on a governmental, diplomatic, legal and public relations level – represents a clear and present threat that undermines the very existence of the State of Israel. The strong connection between the state of Israel and the Jewish people across the world strengthens us in our efforts to provide safety for the people of Israel. The soldiers and officers of the IDF thank you for your deep friendship and support. Cherished Friends, We set ourselves a goal to assist and care for our soldiers through various projects, in which many of you are essential partners. I meet these soldiers on the front lines, in the field and at their bases and can personally vouch as to how important the work of FIDF is to them and how much it helps them to complete their mission – to protect our nation. On behalf of all the soldiers and officers of the IDF, I wish to thank each and every one of you whose heart is with us during the good times and the difficult ones alike, and mostly for your steadfast and uncompromising support for the IDF. I wish every one of you a great evening and hope to see you soon in Israel. Sincerely and with much respect,

Benjamin (Benny) Gantz, Lt. General Chief of the General Staff

A LETTER FROM CONGRESSWOMAN JAN SCHAKOWSKY

Dear Friends: Thank you to the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Central Region, for your work in recognizing and supporting the brave men and women who have performed admirably in defense of Israel. As a Jew, someone who loves Israel and a Member of Congress, I stand in solidarity with the people of Israel. It is through their dedication to their country that the spirit of Israel and its people have been allowed to thrive. The commitment of Israel’s active duty forces to defending their nation and overcoming adversity and formidable obstacles embodies the values of liberty, community, and sacrifice. In honoring the actions of these heroic individuals, we must also commemorate and mourn those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice the fallen soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, who will never be forgotten. The contribution made by all those who serve is invaluable. I want to commend the work of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. The support you have provided to Israeli soldiers and their families the past 30 years is a testament of your commitment to the nation of Israel. I appreciate the work that you do and the many programs you offer to soldiers and their families, including the Dignity program to help soldiers in financial distress, the Impact program providing scholarships to former soldiers and the Legacy Program. I am pleased to honor the contributions made by Israeli soldiers in the path to a safer country and acknowledge the tremendous support Friends of the Israel Defense Forces have provided these soldiers. On behalf of the 9th Congressional District of Illinois, I would like to extend my best wishes for a memorable evening. Sincerely,

Jan Schakowsky Member of Congress

A LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN Dear Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Congratulations on your 30th anniversary. The leadership of the FIDF and the soldiers and families who serve as the foundation of this organization deserve to be proud of the milestone that has been reached. This month the United States also commemorated an important milestone in our nation’s history - the 10th year anniversary of the horrifying attacks on September 11, 2001. As we reflected on this important anniversary of ours, it makes it all the more important to remember the story of Israel and the decades of terrorism thrust against our Israeli friends. Because of our shared values and both being democracies, our two countries have been steadfast in our commitment to each other and the United States will always remain the strongest defender of the State of Israel. The work of the FIDF and that of the Central Region chapter cannot be understated. The programs and services provided to IDF soldiers and the families of fallen soldiers are indispensible to those who gave so much to the State of Israel. I want to particularly commend the Young Leadership of FIDF. The best way to guarantee the mission of the FIDF continues is to ensure younger generations have a role in the future of it. The approximately eight thousand young leaders who are active in the FIDF is a bold statement about the future of the FIDF and the legacy they are pledging to up hold. As you so proudly state, “Their job is to look after Israel. Ours is to look after them.” On your 30th anniversary you continue to fulfill that promise and it's my privilege to commend you on your success and your 30th anniversary. Respectfully,

Aaron Schock Member of Congress

Major General (Res.) Yitzhak (Jerry) Gershon National Director, Friends of the IDF (FIDF) September 26, 2011

MAJOR GENERAL (RES.) YITZHAK (JERRY) GERSHON

FRIENDS OF THE ISRAEL DEFENSE FORCES Standing behind our soldiers in times of war and peace, delivering a message of love, support and appreciation to the brave young men and women who defend Israel. The strength of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has been guarding the State of Israel since it declared independence in 1948, derives from the selfless determination and great capabilities of its soldiers. At the age of 18, these courageous young people join the IDF, promising to uphold the difficult tasks of defending the State of Israel and guaranteeing the safety of those who reside within its borders. Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) has assumed the responsibility of providing these soldiers with love and support in an effort to ease the burden they carry on behalf of the Jewish community worldwide. In 1981, FIDF was created as a nonprofit organization, fulfilling David BenGurion’s vision for an American pillar of support for Israel’s soldiers. FIDF was founded as a tax-exempt organization with the mission of providing and supporting social, educational, cultural, and recreational programs and facilities for the IDF soldiers and their families. FIDF operates out of 15 branches across the United States and Latin America. The soldiers of Israel are – first and foremost – our children. Thanks to the dedicated supporters of FIDF, our soldiers know they never stand alone.

MISSIONS TO ISRAEL FIDF offers a unique opportunity to experience Israel and what it has to offer in a very different way - through the eyes of its soldiers. The FIDF mission gives supporters the chance to tour the beautiful sites of Israel, get to know its wonderful culture, and meet with the brave men and women of the IDF. During the mission, FIDF supporters have special access to IDF bases and get to see facilities and services enjoyed by soldiers thanks to their contributions. In addition, they meet with IDF dignitaries, participate in briefings with Israel’s leaders, and join various other IDF events with the soldiers. The Boot Camp Mission is an unparalleled experience. A former participant described it as a chance to “eat with the soldiers, sleep with them, sweat with them, laugh with them… You become one of them, even if it is just for a few days. It changes you forever.” The Boot Camp Mission is seven days long, including four days on an IDF combat base, experiencing a variety of military activities, and three days touring Israel. The Young Leadership Division (YL) of FIDF is a group of passionate young adults who have made it their priority to help and support the IDF soldiers in Israel. The YL Israel Mission takes place every year, gathering young professionals from all over the United States to support the soldiers. The trip includes visiting soldiers both on their bases and in the field, exploring Israel’s remarkable sites, and celebrating special events with the soldiers. The FIDF Leadership Mission, sponsored by the Rabbinic Cabinet, is geared toward Rabbis of all denominations, key members of local communities, and others who wish to join this special advocacy mission to Israel. This trip involves visiting soldiers on bases, high level military briefings, and meetings that give the participants a deeper understanding of the diplomatic, strategic, and security-related challenges facing Israel. The participants leave with a renewed sense of the importance of encouraging support for Israel among those in their lives - colleagues, congregants, friends and family. The IMPACT! Mission is a very special experience for many who care most about Israel and its education. In addition to touring the country and getting an inside look at the IDF, this mission brings together supporters from all over the United States with recipients of IMPACT! scholarships, former combat and combat-support soldiers who could not otherwise afford higher education. A highlight of the mission is attending the Annual IMPACT! Ceremony, where current students and alumni celebrate with FIDF supporters. The Central Region IMPACT! Mission to Israel is November 3-11, 2011. The FIDF 30th Anniversary Delegation to Poland & Israel: From Holocaust to Independence will take place April 16-27, 2012. The delegation will be honored by the presence of the President of Israel, the Prime Minister of Israel, the Minister of Defense, IDF Chief of the General Staff. This exclusive delegation will begin in Poland and end in Israel and will include such events as the IDF “Witnesses in Uniform” ceremonies in Poland, a march into Auschwitz with the soldiers of Israel, the chance to learn about Israel’s leading technologies from Israel’s high-ranking IDF officers, participating in IDF military exercises and a celebratory Israel Air Force show, and more.

EDUCATION AND CULTURE The spirit of the Jewish nation has been preserved through centuries of knowledge passed on from generation to generation. As part of this tradition, the value of education is ingrained in every IDF soldier. Friends of the IDF encourages and promotes various EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS designed to guarantee the continuation of this remarkable tradition. The significance of these programs is grounded in their contribution to each and every soldier as well as to the society of Israel as a whole. During their military service, IDF soldiers demonstrate self-discipline, persistence, dedication, and resourcefulness. They prove they have what it takes to excel, and to mature into the next generation of leaders in Israeli society. However, many of these motivated and talented young adults lack the financial means to acquire the academic or vocational training needed to set them on the path to success. The IMPACT! Scholarship Program provides four-year academic scholarships to IDF combat soldiers who have completed their military service and cannot afford the cost of higher education. IMPACT! not only affects these individuals by offering them a way out of this cycle of poverty, but also greatly improves their future career opportunities. By helping these young men and women, who will ultimately shape Israel’s future, FIDF strengthens the entire nation. During their studies, the students learn the value of giving back to the community by volunteering. Since the program’s inception, IMPACT! scholarship recipients have volunteered for over 1.3 million hours, making it the scholarship program that provides the most community service in Israel. While these students receive a high caliber education, their community involvement ensures that the impact of the program continues for many years beyond each student’s graduation. For the academic year 2010-2011, FIDF granted about 3,000 scholarships. There are currently 2,500 IMPACT! graduates. The FORMAL EDUCATION PROGRAM seeks to increase opportunities for soldiers to complete 12 years of formal education and receive a high school completion certificate by the end of their military service, enabling them to finish their military service with a greater chance of success in civilian life. FIDF also provides for soldiers prior to their enlistment through the YOUNG SOLDIER PROGRAM. This program supports young students who study in a high school or boarding school affiliated with the Israeli military and cannot afford the cost of tuition. In the 2010-2011 academic year, FIDF sponsored 123 young soldiers in military academies in Israel.

EDUCATION AND CULTURE The EITAN PROGRAM advances the integration of soldiers who because of behavioral reasons would otherwise be exempt from enlisting in the IDF, providing them with assistance toward the completion of military service and with a vocation as a tool for success in life thereafter. The ISRAELI JOURNEY PROGRAM provides IDF soldiers with opportunities to revisit their connections to their group, their country, and their heritage while gaining a better understanding of themselves. The historic Israeli landmarks serve as the perfect backdrop for the six fun-filled days of this physical and emotional journey through Jewish- Israeli identity. In the first half of 2011, FIDF has sponsored the Israeli Journey experience for 2,169 commanders in training. Soldiers and commanders confront questions of identity, purpose, and ethical concern on a regular basis. FIDF supports the programs of IDENTITY AND PURPOSE, directed by Beit Morasha of Jerusalem, that allow soldiers to process and explore these issues. These programs incorporate a variety of educational techniques; promote a better understanding of Jewish heritage and culture; encourage constructive debate about values and responsibility; and strengthen the ability to process and discuss issues of Jewish identity and values. In the first half of 2011, FIDF has sponsored Identity & Purpose workshops and seminars for 4,240 soldiers and commanders. The AMIR COURSE guides Ethiopian-Israeli soldiers in the first stages of military service towards realizing their full potential. The program enables them to participate in special military courses and serve in challenging and more influential positions, which contributes to their professional incorporation into military and civilian institutions down the line. In 2011, through four sessions of the Amir Course, FIDF is supporting approximately 600 soldiers from the Ethiopian community. The daily activities of IDF soldiers leave them little time to enjoy the cultural and artistic aspects of Israeli society. FIDF supports the SUNDAY CULTURE PROGRAM, which sponsors various cultural events for soldiers on Sunday mornings - from plays and musical performances, to lectures and visits to museums. The program allows soldiers to enjoy a few hours of entertainment while reconnecting with important educational and cultural values that are vital for the growth of the Israeli nation. The MECHTZAVIM PROGRAM provides important experiences for key players in the IDF, strengthening their abilities as educators and giving them tools to connect both themselves and their soldiers to Jewish and Israeli identity, honing their leadership skills. These workshops and seminars, lectures and tours assist the senior officers and commanders with tools and skills for coping with their daily life in the military and in life beyond.

WELLBEING AND RECREATION FIDF wellbeing programs assist IDF soldiers who experience grave financial hardships or have no family support in Israel to help them during their military service, while the recreational programs provide soldiers with the rejuvenation and relaxation that they so direly need in order to continue protecting our Jewish homeland. 19,000 soldiers are classified as soldiers in need, with one out of five new IDF soldiers coming from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition, several thousand soldiers choose to stay on their military bases rather than go home on their days off simply because they worry about being a financial burden on their families. The DIGNITY program provides these soldiers with financial aid and basic necessities. Although the IDF has increased its welfare budget, the assistance given to soldiers in need is far from sufficient. Through the DIGNITY program, FIDF provides millions of dollars in special grants for soldiers in need and their families, as well as food allowances and holiday-gift vouchers. In 2011, FIDF provided over 8,000 soldiers in need with necessities such as furniture and appliances, Special Aid, Hanukah Friendship Vouchers, and Food Vouchers IDF soldiers face extremely difficult conditions on a daily basis. They are constantly in motion and must always be alert and ready for any new challenges each passing hour may bring. The intense military activity often leads to severe mental, emotional, and sometimes even physical stress which, in turn, can cause even the strongest young men and women to feel worn out. The SPIRIT program allows the soldiers to enjoy a week of rest and recreation provided by FIDF to combat units. Each week, hundreds of soldiers enjoy a week of R&R at recreational centers, fully equipped with lodging and dining facilities, swimming pools, fitness rooms, and other amenities. Experience has shown that a few days of physical and emotional rejuvenation are critical to keeping morale up. After enjoying a SPIRIT week with their brothers in arms, they are able to return to their demanding routine with elevated spirits and renewed strength. In the first half of 2011, FIDF has supported 9 SPIRIT weeks for over 4,500 soldiers.

WELLBEING AND RECREATION The ADOPT A BATTALION program focuses on unity, morale, and the overall wellbeing of combat soldiers. This is achieved by holding events that mark the end of training, honoring outstanding soldiers, providing small gifts featuring the unit’s insignia, and carrying out entertainment activities, sport and fun days, and unit celebrations of the Jewish New Year and Passover. Through this program, FIDF promotes establishing long-term relationships between individuals or communities in the U.S. and IDF battalions. In 2011, FIDF supported 39 battalions through the ADOPT A BATTALION program. The mission of FIDF is to provide for the wellbeing of every soldier and allow all IDF units to enjoy the support of FIDF in a way that meets specific needs. We encourage commanders and soldiers to tell us how we can best assist them. Grants are given for special requests such as seasonal equipment, sports equipment, entertainment systems, electrical appliances, and other necessities for the soldiers.

BEREAVED FAMILIES Following the Biblical tradition, Friends of the IDF operates to “uphold the rights of the orphan, and defend the cause of the widow,” (Isaiah 1:17). Through the many facets of the LEGACY program, FIDF supports the special needs of thousands of bereaved individuals who have suffered the devastating loss of a loved-one during military service. Legacy Bar/Bat Mitzvah In the Jewish tradition, when a child celebrates a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, it marks that individual’s passage into adulthood. For a child who lost a family member in action, one of the first ritual obligations is to recite the Kaddish prayer. Thus, what is a joyous celebration becomes instead a painful reminder of the lasting void in their life. Through the LEGACY BAR/BAT MITZVAH program, sponsored by FIDF, these children attend a full day of celebration in their honor, including a reception at the Presidential Residence, a tour of the Knesset, an Aliya to the Torah at the Kotel, and much more. They also receive a special gift at the day’s conclusion. Through the LEGACY SUMMER CAMP program, children also experience an unforgettable visit to the United States where they participate in summer camp activities, meet Americans their age, and form lifelong friendships. In 2011, FIDF Central Region brought 48 Bar/Bat Mitzvah children with 13 staff to the Central Region for 2 weeks of overnight camp at JCC Camp Chi in Wisconsin. As part of the LEGACY FAMILY program, FIDF sponsors a variety of R&R retreats for the families of soldiers killed in action. Bereaved families are invited to spend a week of R&R and enjoy various workshops, social outings, entertainment by popular Israeli artists, and sport activities. Together they can gather strength and support one another. Despite their loss, they know the people of Israel and FIDF will always stand with them in remembering and honoring their loved-one. For the LEGACY families, the opening of the New Jewish Year, Rosh Hashanah, is a bittersweet occasion, marked with feelings of sadness and hope. FIDF extends its support and wishes for a better year with a ROSH HASHANAH GIFT to the widows of fallen IDF soldiers. FIDF embraces bereaved families at another turning point - marriage - with LEGACY WEDDING GIFTS. FIDF is there to celebrate the beauty of starting a new family and continuing the legacy of their own family. Once a year, LEGACY newlyweds come together for a ceremony in which they are congratulated and receive a wedding gift. The LEGACY FAMILY programs also include a special period of three days of workshop for siblings of fallen soldiers. In 2011, in the first of three special seminars for Bereaved Siblings, FIDF sponsored 387 siblings.

MEDICAL SCHOOL The importance of the military physician for the IDF and the State of Israel, the existing shortage of doctors and the necessity for advanced training for tomorrow’s military physicians all led to the establishment of the IDF MEDICAL SCHOOL. The IDF Medical School Program is one of FIDF’s most important projects. Through this program, students attend medical school at Hebrew University, the leading medical school in Israel, while training for military service and eventually integrating as experienced doctors into Israel’s society. The IDF Medical School Program is an extremely competitive program, accepting only intelligent recruits who are hardworking and committed to learning the study and practice of medicine in an intense and unique manner. These recruits are soldiers and students, and are truly the future of medicine in Israel. The six years that form the body of this program involve training in battlefield conditions, military training, and the formal study of medicine with some of the finest physicians and instructors in Israel. FIDF funding allows this program to train soldiers to become prepared and informed elite combat doctors, and to eventually assimilate back into civilian society with unparalleled “in the field” experience.

LONE SOLDIERS The IDF defines LONE SOLDIERS as soldiers who do not have immediate family in Israel - they are usually new immigrants, Israelis whose families have emigrated, orphans, or Israeli-born soldiers estranged from their families. Lone Soldiers endure challenges that regular soldiers do not face. Each year, thousands of Lone Soldiers choose to leave the comfort and safety of their homes and families to travel to Israel and enlist in the IDF. Making Aliya without the support system of family and friends, these soldiers need someone to help them through this difficult transition. By making sure they have a place to stay on their days off, that they are remembered on holidays, or that they can keep in touch with their loved-ones abroad, FIDF creates a welcoming environment for these soldiers, reinforcing their conviction that Israel is where they truly belong. One of the most difficult obstacles Lone Soldiers have to face is being away from their families and friends. To help them cope, FIDF funds FLIGHTS FOR LONE SOLDIERS, enabling them to reunite with their families overseas. In 2011, through a new partnership with Nefesh B’Nefesh, FIDF assisted Lone Soldiers in their aliya process – helping them before, during and after their military service. FIDF provided aliya preparation, aliya flights, Lone Soldier grants, and assistance with assimilation into Israeli society following the completion of IDF service. In 2011, FIDF sponsored 265 flights and grants of an average of $2,500 with NBN, and gave post-aliya assistance to 584 soldiers. FIDF also reached out to 585 lone soldiers with gifts for Tu B’shvat.FIDF also sponsored flights back to visit family for 279 lone soldiers. Under the DIGNITY Program, FIDF provides a variety of basic and essential furniture, electrical appliances and more to Lone Soldiers in-need. Holiday Gifts are also distributed as a surprise to the Lone Soldiers. To these soldiers who live in simple, basic apartments issued by the army, this can make them feel more at home and boost morale. In 2011, 2,437 combat and combat-support lone soldiers received a holiday gift as a token of appreciation. In addition to enabling Lone Soldiers to see their families and helping to provide for their basic needs, FIDF sees the importance in providing a framework for them to meet others with similar backgrounds and enjoy time away from their bases meeting new people and simply having a good time. Lone Soldier FUN DAYS offer a day of rest and relaxation for combat and combat-support soldiers.

CAPITAL PROJECTS FIDF’s Capital Projects Campaign builds, refurbishes, and maintains various construction projects for soldiers throughout Israel. These facilities, ranging from individual structures to grand wellbeing complexes, create an environment in which soldiers can relax, stay in shape, read a book or watch a movie, commemorate and celebrate special days, and enjoy the company of fellowcombatants. In 2010, FIDF Central Region launched its new Capital Campaign for the Nevatim Israel Air Force Base Clinic in the south of Israel to be named in honor of the Jeffrey Silverman Family and Morris Silverman & Lori Komisar. Two years ago, Nevatim became the principal base of the Israel Air Force (IAF), one of the most elite military air forces in the world. Due to its transformation into the biggest IAF base in the country, the Nevatim Medical Clinic was in urgent need of renovation. This $2.8 million project was completed in 2011. Thanks to the generosity of the Central Region, Nevatim will provide first rate medical care for the soldiers and families on the base.

FIDF CENTRAL REGION LEADERSHIP COMMITTEES Chief of Staff Cabinet The Chief of Staff Cabinet is a group of highly motivated IDF supporters who have an opportunity to maximize their commitments on an exclusive platform. The Chief of Staff Cabinet is open for participation to the highest contributors to FIDF Central Region and honors their commitment made to the brave men and women of the IDF. Cabinet Members are presented with several opportunities each year to attend private functions featuring guests of honor that include Israeli political figures, high ranking IDF officials, prominent scholars, and well known entrepreneurs. Members will also be invited to join FIDF on special missions to Israel and see up-close the ways their generous commitment to this organization has tremendously impacted the lives of thousands of men and women serving in the IDF. The FIDF Central Region Chief of Staff Cabinet will have the opportunity to participate in this unique mission.

FIDF Battalions Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Central Region Battalions provide a platform for area professionals to network with one another while showing their support for the brave men and women of the IDF. These four affinity groups are made up of the Finance, Law, Physicians and Real Estate Battalions. Over the course of the year, the Battalions host events ranging from soldier receptions, sporting events, networking happy hours, and intimate parlor meetings to raise awareness and support for the IDF.

IMPACT! Committee The IMPACT! Committee works tirelessly to ensure that the Central Region leads the way for the IMPACT! Scholarship Program, through intimate parlor meetings with IMPACT! students, which engages the FIDF community and Central Region community at large in this important program.

WOMEN’S BRIGADE Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Central Region - Women’s Brigade, established in Chicago in August 2006, formed in response to the Second Lebanon War. United in their desire to help Israel’s Soldiers, women in the Central Region came together to support Israel’s brave young men and women. Since its inception, the group has steadily grown, hosting speakers, planning parlor meetings, and supporting major programs and projects. This summer, for the second year in a row, Friends of the IDF Central Region Women’s Brigade helped to bring almost 50 Bar/Bat Mitzvah aged Israeli children of fallen IDF soldiers to JCC Camp Chi through the LEGACY program. For two weeks the campers enjoyed a unique summer camp experience far away from the daily grief of war and loss through our LEGACY Program.

YOUNG LEADERSHIP Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Central Region – Young Leadership (YL) officially began in the summer of 2007 to provide an outlet for thousands of young professionals in Chicago and the greater Central Region to express their support for the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces. YL now offers more opportunities than ever before for those looking to get involved in one of the fastestgrowing organizations in the Chicagoland Jewish community. YL continually increases its outreach by planning a variety of engaging, diverse programs including stimulating educational receptions with IDF soldiers, inspiring documentary film nights, entertaining parties at the hottest restaurants and bars, and much more. With over a thousand participants, FIDF YL is a major attraction for Chicago’s young community members to share their support for the brave men and women of the IDF. In 2007, FIDF, Central Region - YL made a commitment to sponsor four IMPACT! Scholarship Students over four years. That commitment is now complete and FIDF YL strives to increase their support of the brave men and women of the IDF. In addition, the Young Leadership Division carries out an annual MISSION TO ISRAEL. Members of the Young Leadership divisions from all FIDF regions join these missions to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience during which they tour Israel, visit IDF bases, meet with Israeli soldiers, build new friendships, and support the greater cause of promoting the wellbeing of IDF soldiers. The Young Leadership Mission has an amazing impact on its members and their U.S. communities as well as the soldiers in Israel. The YACHAD Endurance Team is a cross-training and fundraising team, which prepares athletes to participate in any racing event from a 5K to a triathlon to the Chicago Marathon through constantly varied crosstraining sessions. Hebrew for “together,” YACHAD promotes teamwork and provides athletic support to participants looking to achieve their individual racing goals. Team members each fundraise individually for the IMPACT! Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to former combat soldiers of the IDF who come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
