The Royal Masonic School for Girls
Gymnastics Show 15TH June 2013
This year the RMS Gym Squad has had enormous success at competitions and this is all down to years of preparation and training. Participation is at an all-time high and at three competitions this year; RMS had the largest number of entries.
Competitive gymnastics at RMS began six years ago, going from strength to strength, until finally the dream of a Gym Show at RMS, including girls from Reception through to Year 13 and from Recreational to National Squad gymnasts, has become a reality.
OPEN DAY GYM COMPETITION - 14th October 2012 The Gym Squad and Club usually put on a display on Open Day but this year it was decided to have an internal competition instead. This was a friendly, relaxed competition which gave confidence to the girls, many of whom were competing for the very first time. For the Squad gymnasts this was great preparation for the coming competitive season. An incredible 68 girls took part, from novice to experienced gymnasts, ranging in ages from 6 up to 17 years. Visiting parents on the day could see for themselves the inclusivity of the RMS Gym Squad/Club. Winners of their age group were: Grace Robins, Stephanie Bryer, Mia Tomkins, Ellie Wheeler, Lucy Michaels, Sophia Lunt and Katie Bell. TRINITY GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - 4th November 2012 30 Gymnasts represented RMS at these Championships held at Wycombe Abbey. For a number of the younger girls this was the very first time they were representing RMS in a gymnastics competition. The Under 10’s came 1st winning gold medals and the Trinity Shield. The Under 8’s and Under 9’s came 2nd and the Under 11's and Over 11’s came 3rd.
This evening's show has a number of objectives. Firstly to highlight the amount of gym that RMS has to offer every girl interested in gymnastics: secondly, to give the girls an opportunity to show off their skills to friends and family in a large production; and finally, and possibly most importantly (for the gymnasts), to raise funds for a beneficial and fun piece of new apparatus; a Tumble Track.
GISGA 2PIECE GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2nd December 2012 Twenty-seven girls were entered into the competition at Stamford Junior School. The Under 15 team, in spite of not having their two strongest team members, garnered an impressive 3rd place and qualified for the Nationals in March. The Under 10 & 11 teams came 4th.
If you would like to purchase any refreshments, the bar will be open before the show and during the interval, serving wine, beer, soft drinks, water and sweets.
EASTERN REGION FLOOR & VAULT GYM COMPETITION - 1st March 2013 19 schools and 210 girls competed in this competition. Both the RMS Under 14 and the Under 19 teams came 1st, winning gold medals and a trophy.
You may see the gymnasts with ‘buckets’ this evening. If you feel that you could spare some loose change as an extra contribution to our new equipment, we would be most grateful. Enjoy the show!
EASTERN REGION TEAM TRIO GYMNASTICS COMPETITION - 2nd February 2013. This is a new competition and has replaced the previous Carita House gym competition. RMS won both the Under 11 and the Under 16 age groups and received Gold medals. EASTERN REGION ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS & TUMBLING COMPETITION - 3rd February 2013 33 girls from the RMS Gym squad took part in this competition held in Luton. RMS quality shone through as the podium was dominated with our gymnasts. The winners in each age group represent the Eastern Region at the Nationals. RMS girls won the following sections: The Under 14 group, the Over 14 groups, the Under 11 pairs, the Over 14 pairs and the Over 14 Tumbling. To have 14 girls from one school qualify for the National final is an amazing achievement.
GISGA NATIONAL GYM CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2nd & 3rd March 2013 320 girls competed over this weekend which included the British School of the Netherlands and the British School of Belgium. Our Under 15 team came 1st in their age group for all five pieces receiving gold medals and the Anna Woodroofe Cup. They came 2nd in the group routine and received silver medals. Sophia Lunt won the Under 15 age group and received the GISGA Cup. Manaalee Trivedi came 2nd overall and received the GISGA Y Balance trophy. The Over 13 team came 5th. Katie Bell came 8th overall. NATIONAL TEAM TRIO GYMNASTICS COMPETITION - 9th March 2013 Having won the Regional competition, the RMS Under 11 and Under 16 teams represented the Eastern Region at the National competition. Both the Under 11 and the Under 16 teams narrowly missed out on medals and came 4th. 13 regions throughout the UK participated so this was an extraordinary achievement for both teams. Under 11: Rachel Roger-Lund, Alice Weldon, Mia Tompkins and Natasha Jones Under 16: Charlotte Michaels, Sophia Lunt, Lucy Michaels and Phoebe Isaacs. NATIONAL ACRO TUMBLING AND FLOOR & VAULT CHAMPIONSHIPS - 11th & 12th May 2013 After winning the Eastern Region competition in 3 different disciplines, 17 RMS gymnasts represented the Eastern Region at the National Championships in Stoke-on-Trent. 13 regions took part including Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England.
