Defiant of becoming a creative pawn, The Residence packed up its “polysexual-music-art-it crowd” and steered back past the River Styx (aka Eastway underpass), to where it first raised its black flag in the traditional village ambiance of Victoria Park. It’s official. The Residence is here to stay.

HACKNEY WOOD celebrates The Residence’s 5th year anniversary with a flammable awards show and silent auction featuring artists who all share a connection to Hackney. Going back to basics, the works will be aptly forged from the symbolic material of WOOD. This primal substance has served ancient cultures with supposed magical powers and protection, and was believed to be the shaper of all things. What does wood mean today? There will be 3 awards: 1. CRITICS CHOICE (Awarded by Tom Jeffreys (Art Writer, Spoonfed) and East-End gallerists; Snoozie Hexagon, Simon Reuben White (Elevator Gallery), Cathy Lomax (Transition), Alex Chappel, David C. West (Decima Gallery) and The Residence 2. PEOPLES CHOICE (Voted by YOU! online and on site at the gallery) 3. ART MARKET FAVOURITE (Highest winning bid in the silent auction sale.)
