Dear Sir/Madam, Re: Replacement of Holman Bridge over the Lachlan River at Gooloogong At its recent meeting the Eugowra Promotion & Progress Association resolved to support moves to replace the existing Holman timber bridge over the Lachlan River at Gooloogong. This single lane bridge was built in 1904 “as a vital link” connecting centres such as Wagga Wagga and Grenfell in the south to Orange and Wellington in the north. Over latter years it has also become part of a main thoroughfare linking Canberra and the Illawarra to Parkes, Dubbo and beyond. In recent years, besides the patent inadequacy of its single lane, it has become dangerously dilapidated and in need of constant repair to the extent of a full time workers’ camp being set up alongside it. The expense of this exercise must be enormous, besides the inconvenience of constant traffic stoppages due to repair works being carried out. It’s obviously had its day and its replacement can only be seen as “win/win” situation for both travellers and the NSW Government.
