Door Gasket Kit

Installation Instructions NOTE: Read the entire instruction manual before starting the installation.

INTRODUCTION This instruction covers the installation of the Door Gasket Kit Part No. KGBAC0110DGK and 333036--701 for use with induced--combustion, condensing and non--condensing gas furnaces where additional return air sealing is required.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS Installing and servicing heating equipment can be hazardous due to gas and electrical components. Only trained and qualified personnel should install, repair, or service heating equipment. Untrained personnel can perform basic maintenance functions such as cleaning coils and cleaning or replacing filters. All other operations must be performed by trained service personnel. When working on heating equipment, observe precautions in the literature, on tags, and on labels attached to or shipped with the unit, and other safety precautions that may apply. Follow all safety codes. In the United States, follow all safety codes including the National Fuel Gas Code (NFGC) NFPA No. 54--2002/ANSI Z223.1--2002. In Canada, refer to the National Standard of Canada, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Codes (NSCNGPIC), CAN/CGA--B149.1 and .2--M00. Wear safety glasses and work gloves. Have a fire extinguisher available during start--up, adjustment procedures, and service calls. Recognize safety information. This is the safety--alert symbol . When you see this symbol on the furnace and in instructions or manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury. Understand the signal words DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE. The words DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION are used with the safety--alert symbol. DANGER identifies the most serious hazards which will result in severe personal injury or death. WARNING signifies hazards which could result in personal injury or death. CAUTION is used to identify unsafe practices which may result in minor personal injury, or product and property damage. NOTE is used to highlight suggestions which will result in enhanced installation, reliability, or operation.

DESCRIPTION AND USAGE This door gasket kit minimizes door leakage. For additional leakage protection in a side--return, upflow or horizontal configuration, seal around perimeter of bottom pan before installing furnace. When sealing ductwork or bottom pan to the bottom of the furnace, seal the two slots that hold the bottom plate onto the furnace.

Kit contains the following items: Foam Tape (1/4 in. X 16--1/2 in.) Foam Tape (9/16 in. X 23--1/8 in. with V notches) Foam Tape (7/16 in. X 23--1/8 om/ with square notches) Permagum

Fig. 1 -- Blower Door Removed NOTE: Before applying foam tape, it may be necessary to wipe off any accumulated dust along the casing flanges and blower door flanges. 3. Peel paper backing from one of the 1/4 in. X 16--1/2 in. foam strips and apply to the furnace casing edge facing you along the blower compartment opening. (See Fig. 1.) 4. Repeat Step 3 for the other side of the furnace casing. 5. Cut 9/16 in. X 23--1/8 in. V notched foam strip to fit the width of the bottom flange of the blower door. The V notches may be used for measurement reference of various door widths. Peel paper backing from foam strip and apply to the bottom flange of the blower door. (See Fig. 1.) 6. Cut 7/16 in. X 23--1/8 in. square notched foam strip to fit the width of the blower door. The V notches may be used for measurement reference of various door widths. Peel paper backing from foam strip and apply to the backside of the blower door at the top. (See Fig. 1.) The square relief cuts should go around the holes for the door screws. 7. Peel paper backing from the Permagum. Press a piece of the Permagum into each of the four corners of the burner compartment. (See Fig. 1.)

8. Re--install blower compartment door and outer door. 9. Turn gas and electric back on to furnace. 10. Discard excess foam gaskets.

CUT HAZARD

Failure to follow this caution could result in personal injury or death.

Failure to follow this caution may result in personal injury. Sheet metal parts may have sharp edges or burrs. Use care and wear appropriate protective clothing, safety glasses and gloves when handling parts and servicing furnaces.

There may be more than one electrical supply to the furnace. Check accessories and cooling unit for additional electrical supplies that must be shut off during furnace servicing.

3. Cut 3/16 in. X 23--1/8 in. square notched foam strip to fit the width of the blower door. The V notches may be used for measurement reference of various door widths. Peel paper backing from foam strip and apply to the top flange of the blower door to contact the blower shelf. (See Fig. 3.) 4. Peel paper backing from one of the 1/4 in. X 16--1/2 in. foam strips and apply to the far side of the furnace casing edge that contacts the blower door. Start by placing the top of the strip near the blower shelf and go down the casing edge. A small section may hang off the casing but use this to seal the bottom corners of the casing. Repeat with second piece on opposite of furnace. (See Fig. 4.)

1. Disconnect gas and electric supply to furnace. 2. Remove outer door and blower compartment door and set aside. NOTE: Before applying foam tape, it may be necessary to wipe off any accumulated dust along the casing flanges and blower door flanges.
