Jazz Camp at Brooklyn Friends 2017 A five-day Jazz Adventure
June 14, 15, 16, 19, 20(Begins the day after school ends) 2017 Camp Director & Staff: Nikki Warren, Jazz Band teacher at Brooklyn Friends School, will lead BFS’s summer Jazz Camp at Brooklyn Friends this year with the help of BFS jazz veteran Jessica Jones. We will focus on fun, creativity, and learning, while setting an intention to create powerful music. Through ensemble work, master classes, improvisation workshops and listening sessions, students will experience an immersion in jazz. A staff of various working New York City jazz musicians lead the students in an apprentice-style, oral tradition based approach to learning jazz. This hands-on, child-centered camp is appropriate for those who have started playing an instrument and are willing to dig in for a week, even if they haven’t played any jazz before.
