“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

It was only later after the events of Easter that their meaning became clear. Like a spring that unfolds into the lushness of summer, the resurrection of Jesus Christ unfolded in the lives of His followers. His promise Long before Jesus’ of hope lived out in His final trip to Jerusalem and his death on sacrifice and His victory over death the cross, Jesus was preparing his became a real lived truth. And it is disciples for the event we call ours. Easter. In the book of John, Jesus Easter is the core of our faith. All discloses himself in a series of “I am” of Christ’s promises, His teaching, His statements that revealed His purpose love, becomes tangible to us at and person. “I am the good Easter. I hope you and your family will shepherd.” “I am the bread of life.” make worship on Easter not simply a “I am the light of the world.” Each of prelude to the afternoon feast but a these tell of Jesus’ care and love for us moment to stop and celebrate the but they come into full focus in the truth that continues to unfold in our Easter “I am.” “I am the Resurrection lives. and the Life.” He is the Resurrection and the I can’t help but think that, when He Life. said them, the disciples just stared at ~Pastor Larry Jesus, not understanding His words.

This May our church will celebrate the 14th anniversary of Stephen Ministry. Currently, 40 trained Stephen Ministers serve our congregation and our community. This is accomplished in various ways—One-on-one Confidential Caregiving or in our Group Meetings of Grief Share, Divorce Care or Caring for Caregivers. Visitation provides an opportunity to meet with shut- ins. Our newest program, Heroes Care, provides help to our deployed military personnel and their families throughout the country. All in all, 35 of our active Stephen Ministers are serving 62 recipients in some capacity.

OVERFLOW PARKING….Have you noticed how attendance has increased at all our services? While we’re excited to welcome so many new TLC members, we have noticed that the parking lot on Sunday mornings is often full. Easter Sunday will be especially crowded. So we’re encouraging you to park on the grass along the both sides of the driveway leading out to Lohman’s Crossing. Might be a bit of a walk, but it’s often a beautiful day!

March 2017

As we enter the season of celebration of the resurrection of our Lord, we are focusing not only on the joy of His victory over death, but also on His last words to us. His message to the disciples was to “Go into all the world and make disciples,” sharing the Good News of the promise of eternal life made possible through His death and resurrection. That same “Great Commission” is passed on to us. We cannot all individually “Go and make disciples of every nation,” but through our Outreach Ministry, we do support those He has called to carry out this commission. In Acts 1: 8 Jesus said, “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem (Local Outreach), in all Judea and Samaria (Area Outreach), and to the end of the earth (Global Outreach).” As we look to fulfill Christ’s commission to reach out to people at home and around the world, our ministry includes: Global Outreach - support for men and women who have received the call as missionaries and other ministry activities in Texas, our nation and around the world. Area Outreach -

support for ministry activities in Austin and the surrounding communities.

Local Outreach -

support for and involvement in activities in the Lake Travis area.

Annual funding for these ministries comes primarily from the Special Offerings at Christmas and Easter, with additional specific ministry appeals made during the year. Our 2017 goals for these Special Offerings are: Global Outreach ......................................................................... $137,000 Area Outreach ............................................................................... 62,000 Local Outreach ............................................................................... 55,000 Total 2017 Special Outreach Offerings Goal .......................... $254,000 With your generous contributions we will continue to move forward in obeying the Lord’s commission, carrying The Lakeway Church’s Outreach support into ministry at home and abroad. We will update you throughout the year with reports from the Outreach activities and thank you for your participation. Look for an Outreach Offering envelope in Sundays’ bulletins or notate “Outreach” on your check.

With DR. RICHARD WEIKART The long-held belief in the intrinsic value of human life is dying as the influence of our Christian cultural heritage is being eclipsed by the rising tide of secularism. In this presentation, Professor Richard Weikart will draw from his book, The Death of Humanity and the Case for Life (2016), to trace the rise of secular philosophies that have promoted the idea that humans are merely the chance outcome of impersonal forces, and thus have no intrinsic purpose or value. Sponsored by Hill Country Institute and The Lakeway

If you think we have trouble in our world today, you should see the challenges the Christians of the Greek city of Corinth faced in the Apostle Paul’s time! The church there was spiritually immature and subject to all sorts of temptations: immorality, false teaching, and general laxity in church discipline, to name only a few. Paul not only attempts to correct the Corinthians’ behavior, but he also instructs them on God’s spiritual gifts – available to us today as well. Arrive early for coffee/tea and fellowship.
