NBC Learn FAQ Spring 2013 The following are frequently asked questions concerning NBC Learn.
What is NBC Learn NBC Learn is a tool that can be used in Blackboard Learn or stand alone. This tool is educational and comes from NBC News. Teachers and students can use this tool to view nearly 80 years of historic news coverage, documentaries, and current news broadcasts. What can I do with NBC Learn? NBC Learn can be linked to myCourses by adding an NBC Learn link or NBC Learn playlist to your course. What is the difference between adding NBC Content from the Build Content menu and adding the NBC Learn tool to your course? NBC Learn allows the users to add a link to a specific NBC Learn video from the Build Content menu. The user will not have to browse through NBC Learn to find the video the instructor wishes them to view. Adding the NBC Learn tool to a course does not give a specific video to the student. Instead the student can browse through all NBC Learn content. What is an NBC Learn Playlist? NBC Learn allows you to search for videos within the program, choose your video, and add it to a playlist. You must use the NBC Learn Tool to create a playlist. This playlist can be added to a content area to be viewed by students. How do I add a video from NBC Learn to my course? To add a video you should log in to your course. Then add the NBC Content from the Build Content menu of your content area. You can then search for your video by browsing. After finding your video, click the Share tool on the Cue Card player. You will be redirected to myCourses. See the Center For Teaching and Learning Factsheet on “Adding NBC learn Videos to myCourses”. Can I embed NBC Learn content to my personal blog post or personal web page like I can with myCourses? A link can be provided to any video from NBC Learn. You cannot embed an NBC Learn video like you can YouTube however. This is due to the DRM (digital rights management) system on NBC Learn.
NBC Learn FAQ The Center for Teaching and Learning How do I find the URL for a video? Go to NBC Learn by using the NBC Learn tool. Search for your video. Click the video to open. Click the Print button on the CueCard. APA under Citation will show the URL of the NBC Learn video. What can I do if I can't access the Save or Share window? If you click the Save button, Share button or any other tool on the NBC Learn Cue Card video player and the player seems "stuck", try reloading the page. How do I find the play date of a file? Either from the NBC Learn tool, or an NBC Learn video link, click the video to view the play date of. To view the play date, click the curved arrow in the upper right of the video to "flip" it. Can I download videos? Yes, you can download videos by using the offline player. Click the Download button beneath the video once opened. The first time you download a video, you will be asked to install the NBC Learn application. How do I access downloaded video files? You should be able to access files through the NBC Learn player app much like you can access songs through an application such as iTunes. Can I edit videos down to shorter clips? The DRM system of NBC Learn blocks normal editing capabilities on videos. Where are the video files that I download? Downloaded files are packaged in an .nbc format which is designed for the NBC Learn player.
