New children’s storytelling events in Antigua and Saint Lucia for summer 2013 Some of the UK’s top children’s illustrators and storytellers from Puffin will be heading to the Caribbean this summer to host a new series of events for young holidaymakers. As well as live drawing, readings and quizzes, the sessions will involve mask-making, junk seamonster modelling and other activities all designed to bring stories to life. The Puffin storytelling events for summer 2013 will be hosted at three different resorts within the Elite Island Resort group including The Verandah Resort & Spa and St James’s Club in Antigua as well as St James’s Club Morgan Bay Saint Lucia for the first time. PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN IN ANTIGUA: For pre-school age children Ed Vere, whose latest book 'Bedtime for Monsters' was shortlisted for the 2011 Roald Dahl Funny Prize, will be at the Verandah Resort & Spa, Antigua hosting daily events from 3 - 11 June. Ed has been writing and illustrating books for children since 1999 and has had his books published all over the world. TOTS TO TEENS IN ANTIGUA: Curtis Jobling, original designer of Bob the Builder, will be children’s artist in residence at St James’s Club Antigua from 29 July for a two week stint. He’ll be hosting events for both younger children and 10-year olds to teens. His other books include illustrations of the cbeebies series Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and Frankenstein’s Cat and the Wereworld books series for older children. SCHOOL SUMMER HOLIDAY STORIES IN SAINT LUCIA: Rachel Bright, whose books include My Sister is an Alien and What does Daddy Do? and is this year’s official World Book Day illustrator will be at St James’s Club Morgan Bay St Lucia for two weeks in the summer holidays, starting her daily sessions on 12 August 2013. All Puffin hosts will create a programme of live events especially tailored for different age groups ranging from three to teens. Paula Whitehead, Elite Island Resorts, said: “The emphasis is on fun, reading for pleasure and the world of possibilities that can be explored through creativity. The ocean and the paradise setting of the Caribbean will be a fantastic inspiration for the these events which I know the children are going to love.”

Curtis Jobling is best known for being the designer of worldwide hit children's television show Bob the Builder, and the author/illustrator of numerous children’s books.. Early work on Aardman’s Wallace & Gromit and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks led to him picking up his crayons in 1997 to design the BAFTA winning Bob. The animated series of Frankenstein’s Cat, based upon Curtis’s book of the same name, picked up the Pulcinella award for Best Children's Show at the 2008 International Cartoons On The Bay festival in Salerno, Italy. His noisy new preschool show, Raa Raa, can be seen on CBeebies, while his original paintings and prints sell in galleries the world over.
