Recognizing Outstanding Service Excellence

Mike Brown Clinical Genetics Labs Linda Stork from Doernbecher Hematology Oncology submitted the following nomination…

Michael went way beyond what is expected of a cytogenetics technologist over the Labor Day weekend and into the following week. To help in the diagnosis and management of a critically ill infant in the ICU, he drove up to OHSU from the cytogenetics lab himself to pick up a bone marrow sample, as the courier system was not functioning at that time. He began the laboratory process immediately and worked assiduously to get a cytogenetic diagnosis. He read the literature as the lab studies were in process in order to educate himself on the diagnostic issues involved and educated us subsequently. He was able to determine within record time that the patient had a specific chromosome abnormality that rendered a definitive diagnosis and guided us to modify the patient's treatment. This critically ill infant remains alive today, Sept 19, as we write this award nomination, and we believe that Michael has played a vital role in saving this child's life. Our sincerest thanks to Mike. Linda Stork, MD; Kellie Nazemi, MD; Blachy Davila-Saldana, MD.
