Name: Robert Harris Age: 40 Hometown: Alexandria, Louisiana Military Branch: U.S. Marine Corps, 1990-1994
Robert Harris would have liked a career with the Marines but an accident while on duty shattered that dream. A military vehicle ran over his left foot causing him to go through an extensive surgery in which doctors fused his ankle together. It took Harris several months to heal from his accident. Harris moved to Houston in January 2012 to be with his family. Soon after coming to Houston, he found himself homeless, living at the Star of Hope shelter before he received assistance from the initiative—Housing Houston’s Heroes. Harris was given a voucher to live in his current home. Harris now feels that his life is back on track. He is currently pursuing a degree as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Houston Community College (HCC). His goal is to eventually become a registered nurse. He is expected to graduate from HCC in 2014.
