THE DE SOTO KNIGHT

FEBRUARY 2016

Serving the parishes of Christ the King, Holy Spirit, St. Gregory, and Good Shepherd

Brothers this is the month that you show your wife how much you love her, how much she means to you -all those things that you would normally say and or do during the year—at least I hope you do. Loving and caring are, I believe, the strongest emotions that we have. So be sure and give her a hug and a kiss and remind her of how much you love her. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

and to protect the principles of our order. If you are a Knight of the Third Degree, in good standing, you have an opportunity as well as a duty to grow further in your Faith and to preserve the principles of the Knights of Columbus. The time to consider joining the Fourth Degree is now! Vivat Jesus, Lonnie Treadaway, Faithful Navigator

Sir Knights: As we enter February of 2016 it’s a great time to reflect on why we made the decision to join the Patriotic Degree of our order. I encourage our membership to take an active and participatory role in our Assembly. We also need to let our brother Knights know why the Fourth Degree of our order is an important and vital arm of the church. We need to be open and receptive to our fellow knights and not consider the Fourth Degree as an elite social club. Our goal for the year is to have growth in our Fourth Degree membership with Knights that put the principles of the order into action. A Fourth Degree Knight should put his Faith into action, be unwavering in his support of our Faith, he should stand firm in support of the order, he should proudly serve his country and honor the legacy of Knighthood. There is no greater honor than serving those who have served our country and our order. We honor our Knights and their families during times of tragedy and loss, we stand for and support them in their time of need. We take pride in honoring our flag and our veterans for their service and sacrifice. We need to act now! We need strong role models to live, to serve,

On December 24, 2015 we lost brother Sir Knight Arthur Hermsdorfer Jr. He took his first degree in 1972 and his Fourth Degree in 1994. He and his wife Sally were long time members of Christ the King Parish. Our prayers and condolences go out to his wife and his family. There was an Honor Guard at the visitation and at the funeral mass—members in attendance were Sir Knights Francis Miller, Tom Cusker, Ted Landers, Ken Lubbers, Fred Ward, Robert Purifoy, and members from council 5062 including a Past Master of the Fourth from Tennessee in total there were 11 Honor Guard member there.

The 2015—2016 assembly officers were installed at the Council 7120 home on January 18th — though this was a little late due to the availability of dates— it has finally been accomplished. Congratulations to all newly installed officers.

Bill O'Connor, our District Master has given his approval to the formation of a Fourth Degree team here in the North. I am given to understand that he is ordering the books nec-essary for this formation. Any Fourth Degree Member who would like to be part of this team is encouraged to contact Lonnie Treadaway at [email protected] or you can e-mail me—Fred Ward— at [email protected] This is a great opportunity for our Assembly. Let’s take advantage of it and start it. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

At the last meeting there was a discussion regarding our support of the Wounded Warriors Project here in the State of Mississippi. All money raised would go to the Mississippi project not the national project. Also there was a discussion regarding the Gary Sinese Foundation and perhaps supporting them with a donation. These discussions will be brought up at the next meeting in February. If you would like to have any input into these projects be sure and be at the next meeting on February 15 and express your feelings regarding these projects. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Just a reminder that your dues for the year 2016 are now due — they can be paid at the next meeting February 15, 2016 — Rosary at 7:00PM with the meeting beginning at 7:30 P
