FACILITIES THIS IS LOBO VOLLEYBALL

The 2004 season marks the fifth straight season of Lobo volleyball in the Johnson Center. The volleyball program is no stranger to the Johnson Center, having played there from 1991 to 1995 before moving to The Pit for four seasons. During those first five years at the Johnson Center, UNM averaged 1,474 fans per match. Last season, the Lobos averaged 444 fans per match and attracted 1,339 fans to “Jam Johnson” vs. Utah. The Lobos host two tournaments this season, starting with the Comcast Lobo Invitational (Sept. 34). UNM will welcome Creighton, Montana and Northern Colorado for Labor Day Weekend. Later in the month, New Mexico hosts the Albuquerque Marriott Lobo Volleyball Classic (Sept. 17-18), with Hartford, UTEP and Weber State participating. Season and single-game packages are available by contacting the UNM Athletics Ticket Office at (505) 925-LOBO (5626).

ACADEMICS AT UNM With over 170 accredited disciplines to choose from, the University of New Mexico offers something for everyone in a unique learning environment. UNM’s programs in Latin American studies, laser optics, environmental studies, photography, and lithography have all earned international acclaim. Graduate programs in arts and sciences, business, education, engineering, and fine arts are also available. UNM offers several degree programs, most requiring four years for completion, that are offered nowhere else in New Mexico. These include computer engineering, dental hygiene, physical therapy, nursing, architecture, and dance. The University College is the first academic home for all freshmen and many transfer students. Freshmen must complete 26 hours of credit within UC before transferring to the college of their major area of study. This allows students an opportunity to adjust to college life and take a variety of courses before having to decide what degree to pursue. After completing approximately one year of college, students may begin fine tuning their academic interests in one of the following programs: the School of Architecture and Planning, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, Schools of Management, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, Division of Dental Programs, or School of Medicine. If no single college or program offers what the student needs, he or she may elect to remain in University College and design an individualized Bachelor of University Studies degree.

LOBOS EARN AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD The New Mexico volleyball program was named one of 46 schools in the country to be awarded the prestigious American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2003-04 academic year. The award, initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate volleyball programs that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

2003 Academic All-Conference Team Seven Lobos (Adah Burke, Jennifer Heasty, Anna Reines, Lindsay Smith, Chelsea Sondrup, Kelly Therkelsen and Georgia Whitson) were named to the 2003 MWC Academic All-Conference Team. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.

DID YOU KNOW, UNDER COACH McKEE... * In her two years at New Mexico, McKee has coached 11 Academic All-Conference honorees * Under McKee, Adah Burke earned Academic All-District VI honors in 2003 * Last season, the Lobos boasted a team GPA of 3.35 * While at Northern Arizona, the Lumberjack volleyball program earned 31 Academic Big Sky Conference honors and 75 NAU Golden Eagle Scholar Athlete Awards for a minimum 3.00 GPA more than three times the total number of Golden Eagle honors prior to Sliva McKee’s arrival * Every scholarship student-athlete that exhausted eligibility under Sliva McKee while at NAU graduated * NAU posted semester GPAs of 3.00 or better 12 times

New Mexico volleyball players have access to first class facilities, including this work area, which is located in the team room.
