Wall Street Comes to the West and You’re Invited to Play JA Take Stock in Your Future Junior Achievement (JA) is seeking volunteers like you to bring the concepts of Wall Street to Main Street! You’ll volunteer in the classroom to help students prepare for the 2013 JA Stock Market Challenge presented by Great-West Great-Teachers, a program of Great-West Financial, held at The Cable Center on the University of Denver campus on Nov. 7 and 8, 2013. The JA Stock Market Challenge is also provided by Wells Fargo Advisors, AAA Colorado and Husch Blackwell.
What is JA Take Stock in Your Future? Two 45-minute lessons (or one 90-minute lesson) in the classroom that uncover the these mysteries for high school students: why corporations issue stock, why individuals invest in corporations, how stocks are bought and sold, and the risks and benefits associated with owning stock. These lessons give students the necessary overview to participate in the JA Stock Market Challenge. When can I volunteer? Volunteers are needed during Sept. 30 - Nov. 1 in classrooms across nearly every school district in Metro Denver. Will JA provide me a curriculum? Absolutely. JA will provide the materials for your classroom lessons, and we encourage volunteers to incorporate their own tips and experiences. How do I sign up? Register for a specific school, date, and class time by completing the spreadsheet here: goo.gl/0D3B1. Or contact Emily at [email protected]
What’s next? After registering, you’ll receive an electronic version of the curriculum, be connected you with your teacher, and receive support from JA staff! Contact Emily at [email protected]
or 303-628-7377. Can I help at the actual event? Yes! JA is also looking for energetic volunteers for the simulations at The Cable Center on Nov. 7 and 8. If you’re interested in helping at the challenge, please contact Monika Berger at [email protected]
