Announcing … 2016-2017 School District Goals! The WTS Leadership Team is pleased to share with you the school district goals for the 2016-2017 school year. The goals, 21 in all, reflect the major initiatives to be undertaken as we strive for continued enhancement in three important areas: Student and Staff Development &Future Readiness; Communications and Community; and Operations (Finance, Personnel, & Facilities). The goals are prominently posted on the district’s homepage and can also be viewed by clicking HERE.
High School Funding Formula Question to Appear on Local Ballot this November This November, an important question will appear on the election ballot for the residents of Chester Township, Chester Borough, Mendham Township, Mendham Borough, and our own Washington Township. The question will ask voters to decide whether the formula for the funding of the West Morris Regional High School District local tax levy should be changed from one based only on property values to one that incorporates pupil population. According to information being disseminated by the WMRHSD’s Board of Education, a change in the funding formula would result in an increase in high school taxes for Washington Township residents. To view the information click HERE or visit the District Announcements section of the WTS homepage.
Security Notice from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness In the past several weeks, there has been an uptick in online threats involving clown images in New Jersey and around the country, made mostly through social media. Some students may be receiving text messages involving these images. The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) urges you to report these directly to your local police.
Homework-Free School Holidays/Recesses The Washington Township Schools will once again be adopting Homework-Free School Holidays/Recesses this school year. Although WTS understands that it is important for students to engage in independent practice/application of skills learned here at school, WTS also values the importance of family time and children’s leisure activities. Most certainly, a “homework-free” declaration does not forbid children from exercising their minds during the vacation period. If due dates for long-term school projects are pending, students can certainly elect to work on such during the recess periods. As always we encourage recreational reading and families learning together! The Homework-Free School Holiday/Recess schedule is as follows: Thanksgiving: November 24 - 27 Holiday Recess: December 24 - January 2 Spring Recess: March 25 - April 2 Presidents' Day Weekend: February 18-20 Memorial Day Weekend: May 27-29
