‘White Elephant’ Gift Exchange: Guidelines & Rules.
The following document outlines the guidelines & rules for the EARS Christmas party ‘White Elephant’ gift exchange. 1. Participation in the gift exchange is voluntary – it is not a requirement that attendees of the EARS Christmas party take part in the gift exchange. However, failure to take part will result in a serious lack of fun and enjoyment! 2. It is recommended that the cost of the gifts be between $5.00 & $10.00, but it is entirely up to the individuals as to how much they spend. The important thing is to take part in the gift exchange. 3. All gifts should be wrapped to conceal their identity. 4. The game begins… a. A raffle ticket is drawn. b. The person whose raffle ticket is drawn should select a gift from the pool of gifts, or they may ‘steal’ another person’s gift. i. If they choose another gift, they then show it to the crowd, and then draw another raffle ticket. ii. If they chose to ‘steal’ a gift from another person – the person whose gift has just been stolen can choose another gift from the pool – in which case they show the gift to the crowd, and choose the next raffle ticket as before, or again – steal another person’s gift but not the one which was immediately stolen from them. c. This continues until the pool of gifts is empty. Notes: 1. A gift can only be stolen twice (i.e. have 3 owners – the second person to steal a gift is the final owner).
