The role of Charlie Bucket is the emotional heart and soul of the musical. Sings “Golden Ticket” and “The Burping Song” and “Flying” with Grandpa Joe, “Think Positive” with Mr. Bucket and by himself. Charlie is sweet, innocent and loving.
Grandpa Joe is the grandfather we all wish we had when we were Charlie's age. He is caring, patient, sweet and always reminds Charlie to remain cheerful. Sings “Cheer Up Charlie”, “Golden Ticket” “Flying”, and “The Burping Song” with Charlie.
GRANMA JOSEPHINA, GRANDMA GEORGINA, GRANDPA GEORGE
Charlie's three grandparents are mainly character roles. They have a few lines, and join in the song, “Cheer Up Charlie”. They will also be Oompa Loompas or Squirrels.

For this adaptation Mike is not just a TV junky. He is also addicted to video games, the Internet and any other mind-numbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud and obnoxious. He does not know the word "no." sings and dances “I See it All on TV” with Mrs. Teavee.
MR. and MRS. BUCKET
Charlie Bucket’s father and mother. Father sings and dances “Think Positive” with Charlie, they both sing “Cheer Up Charlie”. Also play Oompa Loompa.
Mr. Salt's solution to most problems is to buy his way out. He is upper class, and sings very little.
Mrs. Beauregard is a teacher of geography and has invested a great deal of hard-earned money on therapy for her orally fixated daughter, with less than stellar results. The role is virtually non-singing.
Mrs. Gloop is Augustus' mother who has overindulged her son with food. She accompanies Augustus on the tour of the factory.
Ms. Teavee is a take on all television moms of the distant past, but with no discipline for her child. Think June Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver) or Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) or Carol Brady (The Brady Bunch). She's perfectly put together and a bit vacant. Sings “I See it All on TV” with Mike.
Oompa Loompas – need we say more, except for four song & dance routines? Well, they will also be dancing in “Golden Age of Chocolate”, and some will be in “I Eat More” and “Candy Man”.
Phineous is the reporter who announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. The role requires some singing. Actor will also be a Squirrel. There might also be twins here: Phineous and FERB Trout for some comic routines!
The squirrels are non-speaking, non-singing roles. This is a great part for beginning actors. They will also be in Golden Age of Chocolate and possibly grandparent roles.
THE CANDY MAN KIDS
The Candy Man Kids (a.k.a. Sophie, Danny, Alfie, Billie and additional kids as needed). These kids sing and dance in "The Candy Man,” and possibly “I Eat More”. Oompa Loompas, too.

Gum chewer extraordinaire, Violet hails from Snellville, Georgia. Violet is more of a blue-collar, middle class brat. Sings “Chew It”.
Willy Wonka is an enigmatic character; at once mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic. He also disguises himself as the Candy Man. The actor should be able to be funny and serious and change between the two on a dime. Sings “The Golden Age of Chocolate” and “Pure Imagination” “Candy Man”, “In This Room Here” and “There’s No Way of Knowing”.
